Lucy Clay had four brothers who served as soldiers in the American Revolution: Pvt. Henry Clay, Green Clay, Capt.Thomas Clay and Lt. Matthew Clay, who served with the 9th, 1st and 5th Virginia Regiments and was an original member of the Virginia Society of the Cincinnati.

Private Henry Clay died in 1777 at the Battle of Trenton.

Green Clay's son, Captain Cassius Marcellus Clay served in the War of 1847 and commanded a White House Guard for President Abraham Lincoln as Major General Clay during the Civil War.

Green Clay's grandson, Colonel Ezekiel Field Clay served as field commander of the Kentucky 3rd Battalion during the Civil War.
